Why I Wear Makeup and a Few of My Favorite Makeup Artists

   I often get asked the question “Why do you wear makeup?” At first I really didn’t have an answer. In the beginning it was just something I wanted to do but without a really good answer people begin to come up with their own reasons. Ya see most people have a preconceived idea that women who wear makeup think they’re ugly. Now me personally, I don’t think I’m ugly and I feel that some times people can over think things.

   When I first started wearing makeup I was about 16. I wore it once in a while and was not very good at applying it but then again who is?! Right?! I knew nothing of blending or that you shouldn’t use the applicators that come in the eye shadow quads you get from the drug store.

I can honestly say went I went to beauty school I enjoyed the makeup application classes but still was not that interested. Hair was my focus. All I wanted to do was color hair all day long. Color your hair, my hair, and anyone’s hair that would let me.   

Much later on in life I decided to go into a MAC store for the first time. I don’t even know why but I did and let me tell you, each eye shadow and lipstick color called to me and I had to have them all! Every month I would buy at least 2 new eye shadows and practice applying them.

Eventually I stumbled across YouTube and discovered a whole world of “Beauty gurus” who could teach me things I didn’t learn in beauty school. There I was again in love with color but this time it had nothing to do with hair. I became a makeup junkie. I would do anyone’s makeup that I could and if there was no one I could work on than I dolled myself up looking like I was ready for a gala when in actuality I was either sitting at home with the kids or running to the grocery store. Yeah people would stare but I didn’t care.

Samantha Chapman makes up half of the sister duo Pixiwoo. I don't think there is anything these girls can't do. I love this classic every day look.

Lauren better known as Queen of Blending is beyond talented. Her looks are not for the faint of heart. Not many people could pull of such an editorial look just to go to the store. I just adore her. 

   There is a difference between not thinking you’re ugly and feeling down right gorgeous with a Smokey eye and winged liner. Makeup is an art form. That’s why there are Makeup Artists and eye shadow palettes. It’s art! Every single day you can create a new look, a new persona. So why not do it? I have women all the time tell me they wish they were brave enough to wear hot pink lipstick or a coral blush. I don’t see why they can’t. It doesn’t change who you are but it can change the way you feel.

   There are plenty of days I can be in a funk and I know sometimes it just takes getting up and getting dolled up to feel better.

So I guess the answer to why do I wear makeup is simply because I love the way it makes me feel. That and I am an artist, my face is my canvas and makeup is my tools.

I love makeup so much that for 7 days starting Monday (5/25/15) I’ll be creating 7 makeup looks and will be posting them at 7pm here on the blog and on social media. I’ve got a lot of ideas and I’m looking forward to how much fun it’s going to be sharing all of my looks with you guys.
