Blogtober14 Day 12: The Best Advice I've Been Given

For Blogtober14 we’re talking about the best advice we’ve been giving. Since we’ve been on the topic of blogging I want to talk about the best blogging/writing advice I’ve been given.
Besides
this one, I have another blog. I discuss my family, motherhood, marriage and
random occurrences in my life. One day I had something happen that I really
wanted to write about but was unsure if I should because it involved a few
other people. I didn’t plan on using any real names and I’m pretty sure they
would never have seen the post but I needed to vent and get my frustration out.
That in
itself turned into a blog post about blogging and personal relationships. I
then took to twitter like any other rational person in the digital age and
asked for everyone’s opinion on writing about people in your life whether they
be friend, family or acquaintance. The response I received from one particular
person was all the best advice I have ever been given and it was in the form of
a quote…
“Tell your stories. If people wanted you to write warmly about
them, they should have behaved better.” Anne Lamott
I
absolutely love this quote. Not all advice is good advice but this actually
meant something to me and it has worked. I no longer feel the need to filter my
writing when it comes to events in my life that I want to share with my
readers. Sharing my stories is the main reason I decided to blog. I’m only
sorry that I doubted myself. So that’s it. The best advice I’ve been given came
from a complete stranger on Twitter.
